The whole singing class before the actual performance ME and my Friends - Mingling
after the performance
Opps! Caught drinking Champagne
Well, who cares? I'm 20 and legal.
Yesterday was the Bastille Day-aka the French National Day. It was really fun. Adelyn drove us both to Shangri-la where the function was held and we were supposed to perform with a rousing rendition of the Singapore National Anthemn as well as the French National Anthemn. We arrived exactly at 5.30pm and proceeded to pin on a "flower" in the colour of the french national flag which proclaim us either to be the performers or the waiters. Luckily for us, the waiter/ waitress uniform is styled differently from ours, albeit the colour being the same as ours - black and white. Well, i wore a black dress which was given from my cousin a long while back.
After the rehersal, we managed to get a half an hour's rest before the start of the function at 6.58pm, according to my french class singing teacher. Adelyn and I decided to visit the washroom. You might think i sound like a suah gu (mountain tortise) but honestly, the shangri-la toilets were so beautiful. They had full length mirrors and large mirrors in front of the basins. The toilet was sweet smelling and very very very clean unlike public toilets. While washing our hands, Adelyn was looking for a place to leave a slip of paper. I told her "Put it beside the washing basin. It's cleaner then your house toilet i'd bet". (it definitely was better than mine). not a drop of water was seen outside the basin. Adelyn replied "Of course. My mum does not provide those towels (set on a tray with many towels rolled up) for me to clean my hands." and definitely not the baskets for us to put the towels in i'd bet. There were also hair gel, mousse, foundation liquids etc etc in the toilet for ladies' purposes. orchids decorate the trays and sinks. Sweets were found in a small tray for us to consume.
But... Back to the trip:
The ballroom was decorated in a "moulin rouge" kind of style. With wind mills and red carpetings. At exactly 7pm, we got up onto the stage to await the arrival of the French ambassador, Mr Jean Paul Reau and his wife (who went around shaking each and everyone of the singing group to thank us of our participation) as well as the arrival of our Minister State of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ho Peng Kee. He was a very warm and likable person and has a good sense of humour from the few minutes that our group got to associate with. Then came the speech and our "performance" before weleft the stage to mingle with the guests in attendance. The food was so-so. Delicious but not very filling. Perhaps that's because i was very picky. I heard that the suzetter crepe was quite good. But i didn't have a chance to try it. There were , according to the french ambassador, 3000 over species of cheeses as sponsered by carrerfour and other delicacies by delifrance. Of course, this is a french function. To the French, the most important dish would be the cheese and the wine. The wine is a definite plus. Champagnes, white wine , red wines and other non-alcholic drinks were flowing. As expected, most drink consumed was definitly alcholic.
It was a perfect moment, captured in a snap shot.n Of course, despite the fact that i dropped a bread i was eating and started chasing after it while a lady of consequence accidentally kicked at it, and i had to take a piece of tissue, bend down and pick it up and disposed of it, it was wonderful. Oh yes, other than the fact that i dropped my forks 4 times and had to replaced them each time and a fancy toothpick once.. and was pronounced drunk by my friends that is...
