Other than studying, I've been indulging in something sweet, something sinful- desserts!
Nope... i'm not gaining weight via dessert gorging. I've been baking them - and forcing my poor family members and anybody coming a meter radius around me to finish them.
Yep! Apple Pie on tuesday and Ice cream cake on valentines day.
The apple pie was a relatively easy recipe with a little trouble in the dough making since i stubbornly refused ready made pastry crust, instead opting for made from scratch.
I spent the 2 days working on the ice cream cake. On friday, with my mum we baked the sponge cake - it took 2 tries. The first came out like kueh instead of cake ... (chinese style cake?), the second was perfect .. kind of, or so i tried to convince us. We slathered ice cream onto the cake immediately in excitement. Guess what? bad idea! the cake hasn't cooled down enough, so when we were applying the ice cream, it started melting on the spot . don't get my mum started on it, you'll never hear the end of it. Finally done (and still melting), we tossed it into the freezer.
On valentine's day, my aunt came over for a visit. While my parents cook Laksa, my aunt and I decided to apply the whip cream onto the cake. First we had to make the whip cream first. I bought what i thought was whipped cream, it looked perfectly like milk to me. Threw everything into the batter, and afte a long while, it turned out butter looking. Anyway, my aunt and i decided to just get on with it and slattered it onto the already-hardened-at-this-point-in-time cake.
Okay... enough ramblings.. back to criminal minds.... ahhh... i meant... ahem.. studying.. yes... i was studying (while watching criminal minds) - but that's besides the ponint. Enjoy!
